When I create a new website, I'm doing it with the intention of making money. So I have to create websites around products and services that are already selling online.
Generally - any topic that has it's own specialty print magazine, or it's own specialty satelite TV channel - and that I have an interest in...
Once I've picked a topic, I start doing research on how people have been searching online for information on this topic. I want to create a list of commonly searched-for keywords that people have been using. Here are some keyword research resources and tools

My latest blogs are getting indexed faster by Yahoo than by Google.
Yahoo is following the links from by blog, and it's indexing my new websites faster too.
I've been using www.pingomatic.com to draw attention to my new blogs. Generally, the first page has been indexed by Yahoo within one week.

I've been getting in the habit of creating a new blog to parellel each website I build.
The websites I build for profit are generally theme-specific directories. I find the best resources on a topic and create organized listing. Then I place Adsense and other themed affiliates throughout the new resource website.
Recently, I've found that creating a content blog on the same subject, and linking strategically into my themed directories, I've found both higher conversion in my affiliate sales and increased spider activity in my directory.
By creating the blog and resource directory website at the same time, I've found a much faster rate of getting my new sites indexed by the search engines.
My blogs are still to new for me to evaluate if other people are finding my blogs to any extent, or if people are finding my information useful and are spontaniously linking to my information.
That's ok though, all the work added to these blogs and my websites is cummulative. The efforts I contribute today will add to the work I did in the past, and it will remain active as a base for any future efforts. No part of your online path to financial freedom goes to waste!

The web permits marketers to easily measure the effectiveness of their advertizing.
After creating a number of different layouts and designs, I've been able to see a pattern in the responses from my visitors, and the profits generated.
Designs like www.qicwebdesign.com will have to be axed. The Google ad along the right side seems to draw very little attention from visitors.
Designs like www.divorce-papers.net always get much better results. In this case, you can see the google ads have been given the prime real estate on the site - resulting in much better return.
Of course - this is only commenting on the CTR (click through ratio) once you have visitors to your site... getting visitors is another thing!

Ok, I confess.
You can tell by the dates of my posting to this blog, I've really taken a break from working on my own websites. Sometime in early September, I stopped building links, I stopped adding new content to my websites and I stopped building new marketing sites to further increase my own profit. I even stopped looking at my Google Ad Profits for weeks at a time. I was burned out.
Now its January.
And Im excited again by the prospect of the marketing work ahead of me! Ive taken stock of my 30 odd websites, graphed all of the stats and reviewed the findings. As you might expect, 20% of my sites are generating 80% of my profits.
My findings show
fantastic profitability (ctr) from a particular layout and design...
... and my findings also include some data on lower profit websites that are very well indexed, but are simply ranking poorly. These will be my first target sites for reworking - using the techniques from the profitable sites, of course!
Of most interest is the automated link popularity results;
